A Bit About Me
My husband and son were the encouragers for the start of Nancy Dru Genealogy. They saw how passionate I am with my ancestry and thought, since I just retired, this would be something to keep me busy and help other family genealogists. I have even helped a few with their trees directly.
In 2009, I started my family tree because I had my DNA done with 23andme. My number one priority was building a tree that was at least 5 or more generations back as this helped me figure out how I connected to some of my DNA cousins.
Each little piece of data helps me to learn more about my family and go even further back. It is piecing the bits or the stories behind the data that makes genealogy fun. Like finding out that my 2nd great-grandfather left a wife and three young daughters in England and they never came to America, so he married again and, to hide that he was already married, he said he was from Scotland on the census records.
Or finally figuring out my paternal lines came from Sackelhausen, Hungary, which is now in Romania because of WWI and is called Săcălaz. I am continually learning more and love telling what I discover, as these bits might just be what it takes to develop the next family genealogist.
In my free time, I continually work on my tree, thereby perfecting ‘Nancy Dru Detective’. In the beginning I was obsessed with working on my tree, but now that my tree is well over 26,000 ancestors that is well sourced, I can take time to help others with my blog, at my local FamilySearch Center, and still do other things I love, like the pickle patch and family time.
